Perfect getaway! So peaceful and nature everywhere. Great location in the glen, beautiful scenery!
What a lovely place to stay. This was an amazing two weeks, such a perfect location. The cottage is a good space, very comfortable and the wood burner made the cooler evenings so cosy. Often opened the curtains in the morning to a view of deer and pheasant on the lawn, and the views of the mountains in front and behind the cottage are simply stunning. We all felt like we could have been in Switzerland or Canada with the views we had. Kay was very helpful and a joy to meet. We will definately be returning in the future. (Justin H – April 2018)
Hamish and Kay were excellent hosts and very patient. Both of them couldn’t do more to help. A fantastic education in deer stalking was had by all. (Alan B – January 2018)
This Is the second time we’ve been to The Gardeners Cottage, and we loved it as much as the first time. You really couldn’t ask for a better location. Once you leave the main road and have negotiated the twisty turns along Glen Lyon, the cottage is set back off the road via a very it’s own track. It may look small from the outside but inside is everything you need, two good sizes bedrooms, a large living/dining room, main bathroom, ensuite and a well equipped kitchen. Kay and Hamish are the perfect hosts, expect at least one visit and expect to be treated like extended family. Who knows, we may be back again. (Andrew R – October 2017)
This is the second time we’ve stayed at the cottage. It is in an amazing location, extremely peaceful with all manner of wildlife (red and roe deer, pheasants, partridges) wandering on the fields and lawns around the place, and with nothing but the sound of wind blowing. It is also only 25 minutes from Aberfeldy, and there are lots of other great things to do in the area, so it’s not isolated. The cottage is very comfortable and well-heated. The folk looking after the place are brilliant as well. In all, we can thoroughly recommend it and will keep going back. (Andreas W – October 2017)
If you want a place that is away from it all then this is the place for you! Truly remote but very beautiful. Deer on the front lawn (Wendy E – July 2017)
The Gardener’s Cottage was a great comfortable accommodation and the setting superb. The sheep, deer, pheasants, red squirrels and other animals kept us amused. Not far to go to visit interesting towns and sites. Kay and Hamish were very friendly and helpful. (Liz M – May 2017)
My husband is convinced we’ll spend our next 10 vacations here- we loved getting away from everything on such a beautiful property. We enjoyed daily walks and runs near the river and using the BBQ in the garden for dinners. Our daughter loved the sheep, rabbits, and deer. Hamish and Kay were lovely and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. (Shannon M – May 2017)
Stunning location if you want to get away from everything. We loved the secluded location and the cottage was lovely – great views from every window! We travelled with two x six years old who loved seeing the deer, hares and pheasants every day! You have to take a walk to the waterfall and stone bridge nearby and the post office at Glen Lyon is a must. (Alan D – April 2017)
We enjoyed our stay in this comfortable cottage. Location is said to be a defining feature of real-estate and Gardener’s Cottage gets top marks. Each day we had to make the hard choice between sitting in a sunny garden and exploring nearby points of interest, nature trails, or the green and inviting countryside! Hamish was particularly helpful. His suggestion that we use walking sticks – and the fact that one was to be found, along with barbecue and freezer in an adjoining shed – had contributed to the pleasure of our visit. The renovation of the cottage was extremely sympathetic; the use of Farrow & Ball type paint schemes was flattering, and the amazing thick curtains made it so cosy we had to keep the stove un-lit to prevent over-heating! If there is a more lovely view from any window in Scotland than from Gardener’s Cottage, I really don’t want to know! Carol B (May 2016)
We were pleased with Gardner’s Cottage, the location was superb. Glen Lyon great for cycling, and the scenery was superb. Meal out at Fortingal Hotel was excellent. Great relaxing week. Aileen C (September 2015)
“The Gardener’s Cottage is perfect for that getaway treat everyone. Driving over Ben Lawers is a must, hopping over the rocks at Dochart Falls in a must and we can highly recommend the Post Office/tea room 20 minutes down the road. In the garden we got views of a red squirrel, red legged partridge as well as pheasants and grouse on the surrounding roads ( watch out for them, they often hog the road)” Andrew R and Cally F (September 2015)
The Gardener’s Cottage on South Chesthill Estate is set in the absolutely splendid isolation of Glen Lyon. To wake up every morning and gaze out over the mountains in the Glen re-calibrates you in a way that is difficult to comprehend. You will leave with a heavy heart, wondering why you ever spent any time at all worrying about most of modern life’s irritations that will consequently reveal themselves to be utterly pointless. Go walking, climb a mountain, swim in a mountain river, watch wildlife through your binoculars and do your best to absorb (ideally intravenously) as much of the Glen as possible before you go home. It is a magical place. Jim T (August 2015)
Gardener’s Cottage on the Chesthill Estate is MAGIC! Inside, it is cosy, well planned, and I’d like to decorate my house with the same colours and furnishings!
Outside (and from all windows) the views are Spectacular….and that’s from one who comes from a beautiful part of the Lake District.
Walks and drives in the area are diverse and wonderful. I wish we’d had longer to explore…and especially the fabulous waterfall and Roman Bridge, which we only got to on our last afternoon, when it sheeted horizontal rain! But glorious anyway, especially with everything in a million shades of Spring green…blue (sky and bluebells) and white (clouds and torrenting water) Light sparkling and dancing on the lochs and rivers….deep shadows dancing on the fells, sorry, Hills!
Heard cuckoo, saw deer, hares and ‘Tufty’ the squirrel….well, several squirrels, reds of course. All magic….and that’s not sentimental, I’ve been a smallholder!
I do hope to return some time….an Autumn visit would be spectacular, but I rather think this cottage will be very special all year round to all who stay there.”Jane P (May 2015)
We have stayed in the cottage 4 times and the lodge every year for 30 years for fishing. The new fittings in the cottage are really good. We will keep coming as Glen Lyon and S Chesthill are really beautiful another great week. Andrew and Gwyn H

Terry & I have been many, many times before and always loved it – but the cottage now has a cared for look, lived in and the work that has gone into the refurbishment in and around the kitchen is fabulous – well done to all. Ann A
