The South Chesthill Estate enjoys over 6 miles of single and double bank fishing and 32 pools on the River Lyon, one of the major Tay tributaries, which is a beautiful and varied river. We have caught an average of 73 salmon per year over the last five years (2010 – 2014). The catch is well spread over the spring, summer, and autumn, from March through to October, with salmon caught weighing up to mid 20s lbs.
Chesthill House and Gardener’s Cottage can both be booked to include fishing, which is broadly split into two sections: Chesthill House’s beat has capacity for six rods (except mid August when only 4 rods are available) over 4 miles of single and double bank fishing and 23 pools. The Inverinain beat, accessible for Gardener’s Cottage tenants, has capacity for 3-4 rods depending on the water level, over 2 miles of single bank fishing and 9 pools on the River Lyon.
From March to July, we offer a 50% discount off the price of fishing when taken with our accommodation. This means you can enjoy salmon fishing for up to 10 rods over 32 pools for between £354 – £590 per week, including VAT!
Buying day permits:
Whilst those staying on the estate have first priority on fishing, day permits are often available. Price per rod per beat per day: trout permits £10; salmon £35 (discounts for multiple rods). You would need to bring your own rod and tackle. If you require to hire equipment and a ghillie (guide/teacher) it might be possible to arrange this at extra cost . For more information regarding day permits please contact the Estate Keeper, Hamish Rae on 01887 877 233 or email keeper[at]southchesthill.com.
